It is a condition of our organic certification that our ingredients are only ever sourced from sustainable origins.

Map the journey that your skin care ingredients take as we introduce you to some of the organic farming communities that we work with and reveal the measures we take to ensure our supply chain is sustainable.

WHERE IN THE WORLD DO GREEN PEOPLE INGREDIENTS COME FROM?

To minimise our carbon footprint many of our organic actives are sourced close to home but some come from further afield.

Wherever in the world we source our quality ingredients from, we always make sure that growers always get a fair price for their produce. It is also a strict requirement of our organic certification that our ingredients are as natural and as sustainable as they can be.

From Africa

SUSTAINABLE SKIN CARE INGREDIENTS

Our Myrrh comes from a unique tribal community in Namibia. The Himba people use traditional, sustainable methods to collect Myrrh and depend on the trade of this anti-inflammatory ingredient to protect and sustain their traditional way of life.

The tribeswomen collect around 100kg of Myrrh a day, numbering the plants to keep track of their harvest and ensure they do not over-harvest any regions.

Green People has supported this independent community for over a decade and works with an intermediary to ensure that those who harvested the Myrrh receive a fair income for their product.

The Himba’s soothing Myrrh is distilled in Europe and then incorporated into our organic beauty balms, our soothing organic after sun and several of our natural toothpastes.

Read more about the Himba tribe.

Myrrh must-haves:

SUSTAINABLE SHEA SUPPLIERS

We use Shea Butter in almost all our products.

The Shea is collected from Shea nuts using sustainable farming methods and 30% of the nuts are left on the ground so their nutrients can support the health of the soil and the germination of new seedlings.

Shea skin care staples:

From Scandanavia

SUSTAINABLE SCANDINAVIAN SKIN CARE

We scope land and sea to bring you the best organic, sustainable-sourced Scandinavian skin care ingredients.

Our biodegradable One Balm pot starts life as sawdust produced  in a sustainable Scandinavian forest. This raw material is produced as a by-product and moulded with plant polymers to make a zero-waste, microplastic-free beauty pot.

Our Marine Facial Oil contains seaweed sourced from the plentiful North Atlantic and feeds nutrients and hydration into the skin.

From Europe

SUSTAINABLE SUN CARE INGREDIENTS

Whilst a lot of our ingredients are sourced at ground level, we go to new heights when seeking out the mountain flowers that we use to make our natural and organic sun creams.

The Edelweiss used in our organic sun care products grows in Alpine regions at around 3,000 metres above sea level where UV light is particularly strong. To survive in this challenging environment, this resilient plant adapted a natural defence-mechanism which shields against harmful UV rays.

This ultra-UV protecting ability makes Edelweiss the perfect, sustainable plant-based ingredient for our organic sun creams.

From around the world

PROTECTED PALM OIL PRODUCTS

We use sustainable palm oil is it because it is a cruelty-free, plant-based alternative to the animal fats historically used to make some skin and hair care products. It is also an ingredient that is well tolerated by those with skin allergies, is suitable for vegans and contains a high proportion of the fatty acids needed to provide nourishment for the skin.

Green People is committed to helping the government achieve its aim of ensuring that Palm oil becomes a sustainable commodity in the UK. We comply to strict measures to ensure that Palm oil used in Green People products does not have an adverse effect on the environment and any Palm oil we use is from certified organic, sustainable sources in countries that do not have native orang-utans, such as the Philippines and Ecuador.

ZERO-WASTE BEAUTY INGREDIENTS

Another way we ensure our products are sustainable is through the use of by-product natural ingredients which are packed with skin benefits that may have otherwise gone to waste.

Apple Cellular Water is vitamin-rich and usually a waste product of the food manufacturing process. Instead of letting it go to waste, we source it from apple chip manufacturers and use it in our Nordic Roots range to deliver refreshing hydration and elasticity to thirsty skin.

Our Purifying Coconut Charcoal Face Mask is also made with sustainable by-product actives. To bring you the purest form of activated Charcoal skin care, we make our skin-detoxifying face mask using by-product coconuts.
