Research linking daily sun cream with fewer visible signs of ageing has got all of us at Green People reaching for our daily SPF moisturisers.
How much does sun cream reduce ageing?
A study by Australian researchers has shown that a daily application of sun cream significantly reduces wrinkles and visible signs of ageing.
The 4.5 year study of over 900 people has found that adults up to the age of 55 who were instructed to wear sun lotion daily had 24% less skin ageing compared with men and women who could apply sun lotion whenever they chose.
At the beginning of the study researchers graded on a six point scale the amount of visible ageing on the back of one hand of all participants. They then regraded the same area of skin 4.5 years later.
Scientific support for the study
We have long known of the ageing effects of the sun on our skin and these findings now provide evidence of just how much the regular use of sunscreen can actually slow down the skin ageing in healthy middle-aged men and women.
Dr. Elizabeth L. Tanzi, a dermatologist and co-director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery in Washington, D.C., stated that,
“It's a well-done study that proves what we as dermatologists have seen in our offices for years — the proper application of sunscreen can slow the signs of skin ageing… You could call sunscreen one of the only true 'anti-ageing' ingredients on the market today.”
Try a daily moisturiser with SPF
Although the skin ageing process can never be stopped completely, it is clear that sunscreen goes a long way to help slow it down.
A moisturiser with integrated SPF such as Green People's Day Solution SPF15 or tinted DD cream is the perfect way to incorporate sun protection into your daily skin care routine.
For your hands, neck and décolletage, which are exposed to the sun on a daily basis and are prone to showing sign of ageing, our organic sun creams are easy to apply and are available in handy travel or handbag sized versions for on-the-go sun protection.
