A single cleanse will release some dirt, make-up, SPF and impurities from the skin but cleansing just once might not be enough to purify the skin of deep daily dirt and thick foundations.
If the skin is not regularly cleansed, dirt and grime and pore-clogging beauty products may build up on the skin, attracting bad bacteria to the skin microbiome. Those who suffer from spots may find that double cleansing is particularly good for acne-prone skin.
Failing to cleanse regularly can also make it hard for the skin to absorb and utilise moisturiser, serum and night cream.
How to double cleanse your face
To double cleanse your face, cleanse the skin as normal, then repeat the skin-cleansing process one further time.
You can double cleanse using the same facial cleansing product twice but your two-step cleansing routine may be more effective if you use two different cleansers when double cleansing the skin.
Double cleansing – 3-step tutorial
This double cleansing routine takes just 5 minutes. Always rinse the face after double cleansing and take care to cleanse the delicate eye area very carefully.
STEP 1: Cleanse with oil-based cleanser. Start by gently cleansing the face with our oil-based Age Defy+ Ultimate Wonder Balm. Suitable for most skin types, this organic cleansing balm releases oil-soluble make-up and impurities. Work it into the skin for around a minute and then remove any residue with a warm, damp cloth.
STEP 2: Cleanse with foaming face wash. Next, wash the face with our organic Foaming Face Wash. Made without skin-irritating SLS, our face wash for double-cleansing has a gentle foaming action which effortlessly dislodges ingrained impurities and sweeps away debris from your first cleanse.
As you’ve already cleansed once, you only need to use a little amount of face wash for your second cleanse. Just one pump of foam is enough to cleanse the pores and leave the face feeling fresh and clean.
STEP 3: Rinse away all traces with water. Complete your double cleanse by splashing the face with tepid water. This releases dirt and cleanser residue from the skin.
