What does dermatologically tested mean?

What does it mean when products are dermatologically tested? Is it always safe for sensitive skin? Find out as we reveal why so many Green People products are dermatologically tested.

When you have sensitive skin, choosing a new product can take a little more thought. Dermatological testing gives you additional information about how a formula has been assessed on human skin.

At Green People, caring for sensitive skin has been at the heart of our approach since 1997. Alongside thoughtful formulation, we use dermatological testing to assess the skin tolerance of many of our organic beauty products, from facial care and shampoos to sun care and products for babies and children.

Discover what dermatologically tested means as we ask our experts to define what we mean when describing our products as dermatologically tested.

What does dermatologically tested mean?

'Dermatologically tested' means the product has been tested on human skin in a controlled, clinical environment.

Different brands may have different testing procedures. To understand what a result means, it helps to know who took part, how the assessment was carried out and what the final report concluded.

In the UK, there’s no legal requirement for brands to have their products dermatologically tested, and as it’s a costly and time-consuming process, many brands choose not to submit their products for testing.<

Are Green People products dermatologically tested?

Yes, many of our products are dermatologically tested, including our scent-free range and our natural and organic sun care collection.

All of our dermatologically tested products have been tested on 30 volunteers for 96 hours to investigate the skin irritation potential and have been shown to be suitable for sensitive skin. We do not undertake any animal testing.

Hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin, all Green People products marked as dermatologically tested are clinically proven to be kind to sensitive skin.

Do I still need to patch test if a product is dermatologically tested?

Yes. No test can guarantee that a product will suit every person. If your skin is sensitive or prone to reactions, patch test a new product before introducing it into your routine, even when it has been dermatologically tested.

If you are unsure how to patch test, learn more with our guide to patch testing skin care at home. If you have a known ingredient allergy, check the full ingredient list before use.
